NXP announced good profit

NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $753 million.

On a per-share basis, the Eindhoven, Netherlands-based company said it had profit of $2.17. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, came to $3.21 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.82 per share.

The chipmaker posted revenue of $2.46 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.37 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.22 billion, or $6.41 per share. Revenue was reported as $9.26 billion.

NXP shares have dropped almost 1 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 15 percent in the last 12 months.
